BIORADAR and Standardisation

Standardisation is the establishment and evolution of technical standards through the collective agreement of various stakeholders, including businesses, users, interest groups, standards organisations, and governments.

Its purpose is to enhance compatibility, interoperability, safety, repeatability, and quality within systems or products. Standardisation plays a pivotal role in normalising previously bespoke or custom processes, promoting a more streamlined and universally applicable approach.

Standardisation fosters growth, social progress, environmental protection, safety, innovation, and sustainable development. It serves as a linchpin across the economic system, playing a pivotal role in simplifying the creation of products and services, reducing costs, and ensuring accessibility to a wide audience, both locally and globally.

By streamlining production processes and minimising costs, standards facilitate the widespread availability of goods and services, enhancing market penetration and bolstering the marketing of products, contributing to increased turnover, benefiting economies on a global scale.

However, the impact of standardisation extends far beyond the realm of commerce. Aligned with the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development, standards are crafted to champion sustainability initiatives. They serve as a crucial tool in the fight against climate change, advocating for a circular economy, promoting renewable energy sources, and safeguarding the environment.

By fostering a well-made world, it strives to create safer, healthier, and fairer environments by eliminating health risks, addressing imbalances that exist within societies, ensuring safety for workers and users, promoting gender equality, enhancing accessibility, and upholding social responsibility.

Within the BIORADAR project, Ente Italiano Di Normazione (UNI), an Italian standardisation institute, plays a vital role in driving standardisation efforts and ensuring that the outcomes of project align with established European and International standards, bridging the gap between project results and the market.

To achieve this, UNI acts as a key link between the BIORADAR project and facilitating the integration of project discoveries into standardisation by identifying pertinent technical committees, ensuring that emerging standards that could incorporate novel developments are appropriately addressed.

UNI's engagement will help ensure that BIORADAR's innovative products and solution for bio-based industries are translated seamlessly into standardised practices, benefiting industries, consumers, and the environment alike.
